The Green Mile (novel)
$15.00
“The Green Mile: those who walk it do not return, because at the end of that walk is the room in which sits Cold Mountain Penitentiary’s electric chair. In 1932 the newest resident on death row is John Coffey, a giant of a black man convicted of the brutal murder of two little girls. But nothing is as it seems with John Coffey, and around him unfolds a bizarre and horrifying story. Evil murderer or holy innocent — whichever he is — Coffey has strange powers which may yet offer salvation to others, even if they can do nothing to save him.”

The Green Mile is definitely a powerful read, and it’s classic Stephen King storytelling. He really knows how to pull you into a world, and the characters—especially John Coffey and Paul Edgecombe—are unforgettable. The premise is fascinating, and the emotional weight of the story is what really carries it. That said, it felt a little slow-paced in parts, and because you’re expecting some kind of King-style twist, some of the events felt a bit predictable. It’s a solid, good book, just not one of my absolute favorites from him. If you’re a King fan, you’ll probably appreciate the heartfelt story, but it might not grab you in the same way his creepier books do.
